About

The Birmingham Foundation, Pittsburgh

The Birmingham Foundation is a private, independent foundation created on May 1, 1996 with assets from the sale of The South Side Hospital. The foundation is dedicated to health-related and human services grantmaking in the south neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which are part of the 15203, 15210 and 15211 zip code areas. Over $7.2 million has been distribtued to 124 nonprofit organizations since the foundation began its grantmaking in 1997. Our active board makes two dozen site visits annually to determine grantees' fit into the foundation's priority areas: children's well-being, health access and promotion, senior safety and wellness, capacity-building for organizations and the enhancement of community life.
