About

Seeds of Hope, Pittsburgh

Since moving to Pittsburgh in September of 2000, my wife, Marilyn, and I have felt drawn to the Bloomfield area. We believe this is because the Lord wants to start an inner city, cross-cultural Church here, or maybe I should say a new work of his Church because his church is already in Bloomfield in some measure. Though it is clear that the Kingdom is not growing here, it is retreating. Since our move, two Protestant churches have closed their doors: St. John’s Lutheran Church and a Methodist Church. Several other churches are also struggling. This is not a new trend; five years or more ago another Protestant Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, was closed and then sold. The most stable influence of the Kingdom in Bloomfield is the two Catholic Churches: Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph. But the Catholic Church in Bloomfield has also shrunk, as these two parishes are being combined into one and a third parish, just south of the Bloomfield Bridge was closed and is now a brewery.
