Marcus Studio, Pittsburgh
Marcus Studio was founded by Craig Marcus in 1992 in a 100 year-old wooden carriage house in the East End of Pittsburgh, PA. Such furniture studios and custom shops have a terrific history in America, Europe, and in Asia as the starting points for many of the prominent styles that have later been manufactured by larger companies. Among the many designs which first grew from these small studios, it is the straight-line, architectural styles that have appealed to me most, such as Mission, Arts and Crafts, Shaker, Danish, Scandinavian, French Noveau, as well as some Japananese and Indian schools. Our furniture has naturally evolved from these styles into a contemporary vocabulary that is marked, like its ancestors, by its integrity, restraint, and attention to detail.
