Central Blood Bank, Pittsburgh
Central Blood Bank (CBB), a non-profit organization founded in 1951 by a group of doctors in Pittsburgh PA, started as a 14-person operation, collecting 5,000 units of blood and serving seven hospitals. Today, CBB employs over 300 staff members collecting and testing units of over 160,000 donations annually and distributing more than 400,000 blood products a year to over 40 hospitals in Western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia.
