About
Brashear Center, Pittsburgh
For generations, the Brashear Association has been a vital part of Pittsburgh's South Side and nearby neighborhoods. We support and enrich the lives of our neighbors to build stronger families and communities. We operate two community centers: the Brashear Center on the South Side and the Henry Kaufmann Neighborhood House in Arlington. We also have a Neighborhood Employment Center in Allentown and an office in St. Clair Village. The Brashear Association was established in 1917 as a living memorial to John Alfred Brashear, Pittsburgh's renowned self-taught scientist and astronomer. The Association originally operated a collection of settlement houses. Today, we offer a full spectrum of programs and services that span from infancy to the elderly, from community service to community action.
